Doesn't Anybody Cook?

Goodness, Mama, I don't think my kids even know what a pencil is, let alone an eraser.

Had you said "that's why there's a delete button", that woulda been sumpin else.

Just received an email regarding this topic. I'm very interested in chatting and meeting with like-minded folks concerning: food, recipes, nutrition, and anything else that we may have in common. I posted a couple times after stumbling upon the site. I suppose my lack of participation was due to the lack of posts all together. Didn't seem to be much happening on the forum, but perhaps I'm mistaken, most likely I am. I hope to be able to continue to post and share food ideas with the rest of you! :)

applesauce - I'm glad to see you back! The only way this wonderful site will grow is with participation from all of us! And I know that with a little effort on everyone's part - it will grow tremendously!!

Hi, Applesauce,

I reckon you were posting before I joined. But let me second what Mama had to say.

The email you got is part of a project Mama, Matt, and I have going to encourage greater activity of the forums. When I joined I couldn't believe that a community of 239 people had so little to say to each other. We're trying to change that.

It's a round-robin kind of thing. If people don't post, then there's little activity, and other people don't post. But if people do post, others will then react positively.

There are a bunch of semi-active threads; ones that have had some activity in the past two weeks or so. Why not see if you have some thoughts, opinions, counter-arguments, or what have you to some of those. Or, even better, start a new thread or three on subjects of interest to you.

If you do that, and so & so does it, and whojamacallit does it too, next thing you know we're realling cooking.

Thanks Guys, I will get to posting. Its nice to be part of a forum that wants everybody involved, I have joined forums before that are a tad too clicky. Thanks for including everybody!:)

YES - we mean EVERYBODY!!! No one is excluded!!! No opinion is wrong - no comment is incorrect - here we can talk everything out, share anything we want to share, give or get advice, learn, laugh, etc.

Well, the truth is, Applesauce, that we do want to be cliquey. What we want is a clique consisting of--as of now---239 people. ;)

Another thing that might be helpful. Not sure why it is on this forum, but how come thread subscriptions default to daily updates? Every VB site I have ever been to always defaulted to instant email notification. I have always found that these keep people more active in threads because they know right away when someone has replied to their thread.

hey - how about a clique of over 500???? Got any friends that have a passion for cooking and would love to be ACTIVE members and participate???

wow guys, got me feeling guilty for going MIA for WAY too long! :p

Even though I'm probably not what you'd consider a low poster on the site, I do know that there have been plenty of times that I'd logged onto this forum (and others) just to look for a "tried and true" recipe or to get a quick question answered (that had already been asked). Which doesn't really call for a thread response. I assume that's why there's not a lot of activity, but still lots of thread views?

time

i personally love cooking but lately i just can't find the time.

maybe time for another survey??

Also, I believe it is at ChefTalk, at the top of the page when you log on after an extended absence, the greeting says something like--"you haven't visited or posted for a while, welcome back." Makes one feel a little special?

Nan

We're trying to change that, Jglass, by attracting new members and keeping the forum active.

Without realizing it, you've helped, with all the posts you've made. The fact is, bringing in new blood, and keeping threads active (or starting new ones) becomes a self-generating thing.

The more activity we have, the more we will have. And when somebody new checks us out, they are more likely to stay if they see some action.

Could you imagine if every registered member made just one post every two weeks? We'd be the busiest cookery site on the web.

How great is it recently things have really picked up.
My sister has her own website for Moms. I keep telling her to send some of them who like to cook this way.

Great idea.

She should also send the ones who don't cook. We'll larn 'em.
