Swine Flu

Only if you are the media.

The regular annual Flu is serious business for sure and an average of a 1,000 people die from it every year. Here we have about 7-8 deaths in Mexico (not the reported 152) and 1 child in the US (brought from Mexico to be treated) and all the other reported cases have been mild and the people recover in a couple days. Where is the pandemic and the cause for the media to go absolutely berserk in their panic reporting?

The media is always ready to PROCLAiM the worst case scenario!!!! Now wouldn't it be BORING to learn you probably won't get it, why it's much better to live on pins and needles and hope & pray to God you don't get the bug! And hopefully all the stress from worrying will weaken your immune system so that you will get it much more easily when you are exsposed to it!!! But of-course your chances of being exsposed to it are slim to none, but the media will NEVER tell you that!

My mother worked in a hospital back in 1976 and had the Swine Flu shot, died shortly after that due to some neurological disease. Only one person had actually died from the Swine Flu back then and several hundred infected. They were all soldiers.
The Government pulled the Swine Flu Vaccine due to the number of deaths it was causing.
I am hoping that that shot(vaccine) doesn't resurface.

Vaccines are made new each year and medical technology has advanced slightly since the 1970's.

I was reading they are hoping to have a vaccine ready for the fall.

When ever I go out to the store I wash my hands when I come home. My father in law is the same way. My husband is always smoothing his moustache with his fingers. It is a bad habit he has. I have tried to get him to stop again and again. Especially during flu season. I understand being blind he wants to make sure his moustache looks ok but that is not a good habit to have. He hangs onto the handle of the shopping carts and I pull the front. Anything on that handle he is putting right on his lips.
He says he doesnt care if he gets it and I say anything you get Im gonna get lol. When ever we get back into the car I put some antibacterial gel into his hands but that doesnt help the dozen or so times he has touched his face in the store. Im sure one reason he does it is boredom. Jon has scar tissue in one of his lungs from when he was in ARDS while in the coma after his accident years ago. I have asthma that has gotten worse the past year. I try and avoid flu of any kind for us both. I had a bad case of flu about a month ago I caught from my young niece who came home from school with it. Took me a solid month to kick that one.
I would just assume skip flu of any sort.

I was telling myself not that long ago that when the day comes when I win the Mega Millions lottery, pigs will fly. Then today I see the headlines in the news: The Swine Flu.. Maybe it is a sign.

I noticed yesterday when the sales papers for the two grocery stores here in town came in the mail that pork prices are dropping. .98 a pound a one store.
I occasionally buy pork to fix for Jon. I havent been able to eat it for years now.

May be a good time to start stocking up on bacon, ham, pork chops and loins with the prices coming down. The world seems to be in a panic that pigs/hogs/swine is the direct cause of the flu. Their loss, my gain.

We now have 9 cases here in MD, other states have more

it appears to me it is spreading pretty rapidly. Not to mention the world-wide spread of the disease. I believe this is a somewhat different strain of the flu than we've had previously. It is a mix of three viruses.

We have three cases very close to the north of where we live, and one case turned up south of us not far away. I am taking all precautions, even bought disposable masks and gloves in the event they would be needed. However, when it is available, I will be the first in line to get the vaccine.

So far I do not think we have any cases in KY.
Jon has gotten pretty aggervated at me for squirting his hands full of antibacterial wash as soon as he gets in the car today.

In Los Angeles County, even with the Int'l Airport, there have been NO reported cases but the panic continues and one hospital had to set up tents outside the entrance to the ER to handle the people coming in scared they had it.

I went to my food bank this morning and all the regulars were there, but the line was way down from previous weeks with people staying away from crowds. We all laughed about it and the paranoia the WHO and media have pushed out. A couple reporters are still regurgitating the 150+ deaths in Mexico (which did not exist).

The media takes everything to extremes. I am a firm believer in better safe than sorry. I am not paranoid but will do all I can in using common sense to prevent it. We had a real scare the past couple of days. A plane was held at BWI Airport a few days ago with sick passengers. My SIL works there. Wed night he went to the ER with projectile vomiting. The med they gave with the IV did not stop the vomiting until the next day at noon, of course, he was admitted by then. I was scared to death that my whole family had been exposed to it. Thank God he was diagnosed with digestive problems and he was severely dehydrated. He is coming home today.

We now have a new case in MD since I typed that earlier today.

It is better to air on the side of caution. I have heard reports that say it isnt any worse then regular flu and other reports that say its worse. The news makes it sound the worst of course and the White House is trying to down play how serious it is. I refuse to sit and worry about it. I use hand sanitizer and wash my hands alot anyway because money itself is dirty as can be. I hope we all avoid this thing what ever it is.

Yes, definitely wise to stay away from handling money at all costs. Nasty stuff and all it causes is problems in our lives. :D

As the saying goes....May God have mercy on our souls.... if this swine flu 'pandemic' is any indication of how mankind is going to handle itself when the real thing hits the fan soon, mankind has failed miserably at every level. We never seem to learn. Hypochondria seems to be the prevailing mood for the general population and the media and government is going overboard crying wolf.

Guess I better stock up on a few more good spices and other supplies. This is going to be a most interesting future.

lol Now that I think about it..I dont get to hold on to money long enough to worry about it.

Yes, that is more practical and is exactly what I do....get rid of it as soon as it comes in to my possession.:D

cripe - who doesn't have a runny nose, low-grade fever, headache or a tummy ache?

allergies, it's still flu weather, and the germs are still out there - but it doesn't mean everyone has pig flu

I am doing my share to prevent this disease - by eliminating a pig - pork for dinner today
