Swine Flu

Eeep! We have one case in Kentucky. A woman who recently visited Mexico came to Warren County KY then traveled to Georgia (I think) where she is hospitalized.

Yes Janie that is correct, she lives in KY and somehow wound up here in GA!

As of yesterdya P.M. I have the sniffles, sneezes and a sore throat and am taking sudafed every 4 hours nothing major, just the start of a cold. But if it turns out I have the swine flu, I will keep you guys posted and let you know how it feels.

CanMan do you remember when the "Ebola" virus hit, and was especially hard-hitting in some of the African nations? That was a horrid disease and as bad as it was somehow it was brought under control. I am totally convienced we have already lived to see a small taste of what you were referring to in your comment when we witnessed the Ebola break-out. But I really hate to see people panic, to err on the side of caution is one thing, to go bonkers over WHAT IF is quite another

I remember it in Africa in the 70's and it hit the US in the late 80's but had mutated so it never affected any people that I'm aware of, only monkeys.

The Ebola Virus is often referred to as the "T Rex" of the virus family in its original form and is at a level with Anthrax, Black Death, Typhoid Fever, Mad Cow, and the Flesh Eating one. All real nasties you never want to be around.

Whew, nice topic.

What irks me is CNN and FOX News BOTH air nothing but Swine Flu crappola for HOURS non-stop... then they offer-up a poll question: "Do you think Swine Flu coverage is needlessly excessive at this early stage, and that it's inciting the population into stressful panic?"

CCathy, glad it is just the common cold. My SIL

was admitted to the hospital Wednesday. He is home now and his problem was reflux caused my the cholesterol medicine he is on. He works at BWI Airport where they held a plane with sick passengers prior to his becoming ill. the plane had some folks aboard from Mexico.

My SIL experienced projectile vomiting for hours and was severely dehydrated. Thank God he is okay now. We were WORRIED but not panic striken. There is a great distance between panic and using good common sense to protect yourself and your family. I agree, it is much better to err on the safe side of contagious diseases.

Well I'm back from Mexico, I've been in Playa del Carmen all week and I didn't see a single sick person. No coughing or sneezing from anyone. More than I can say for Ohio. Still the Mexican government does take things seriously. The food service workers in Playa were all wearing face masks and before they would let us leave back to the US we had to undergo a physical. They took our temperature and gave us a close looking over.

The reason why so many people in Mexico have died from this is because not all Mexicans have access to appropriate medical care. By the time they get to the hospital it's pretty much too late. There are signs all over in Spanish and English saying the flu is treatable if you are exhibiting symptoms please go to the hospital!

We have just as many bugs here in the US. My great grandmother died of pneumonia.

Have you all seen the latest? Now they are procliming on the news that the swine flu is just another old flu bug and not this major "Monster Flu" they were first making it out to be:rolleyes: go figure!!??!!

Jfain is right on with her post about so many who live in poverty not having the resources to seek medical help until it is just too late :( We should all begin breathing a little easier!

My cold is slowly getting better and so far so good, I even made it to work and I'll bet ya by day after tomorrow I will be over it! Thank God for Sudafed (which you have to jump thru 3 hoops to buy these days:mad:) and Percogesic!

MsMai how's your SIL? I hope fine by now.

And of course the WHO is stating the H1N1 might now mutant with the HIV virus and become a totally new pandemic. The WHO should be strung up by the thumbs for insighting riots.

Yeah I saw one report where they are saying if you get it now it will help you build up immunity for the killer version of the swine flu that they say is coming out this fall. They say the cooler temps will allow it to resurge and it will be stronger and more people will die. I don't think any of them have a clue. They should be ashamed for all of the fear mongering.

and they've said in the past that with every mutation the vaccine becomes useless, as does our body immunity, so we have to have a new shot every year with the 3-4 "guesses" on what is going to strike. Like you said, they don't have a clue. The dog is chasing its tail.

Looking on the bright side my cold is getting better, and I survived!!! And WE all survived the BIG SWINE FLU SCARE of 2009!!!!!:D Dawg gone I need me a really neat t-shirt that says JUST THAT--wee dogies!!!!!!!

lol Someone will make those shirts yet.

Now they are just saying it will kill us all this fall.

Yup, the 'predicted' pandemic is supposed to happen much later in the year. Gives everyone something to look forward to.:)
