The Cost Of Produce

As far as some of these rigid views and rules- I tend to prefer freedom of choice in all matters. I don't like being told what to do- then again, I also cannot conceive of feeling I have the freedom of making someone else's mind up for them- thus eliminating their choice- either. Too many folks are all too happy to push their religion, push their politics, push their entire belief systems on others- and disregard others' high regard for their own freedom to make their own choices.

UpState NY has a whole different mentallity than NY City. It's much like the Mountains of Georgia, lol. We had chickens, cows, hogs horses, goats, turkies and scores of dogs and cats. No one one ever complained.
I think that when they put in developements, certain busy bodies need to take control of everything around them and everyone else needs to conform to their wishes. They become their own mini government.
With all the over wieght people in this country, some day people like this will probably try to take control over what is served as a meal at home if they could.
Mom and dad will probably have to provide a nutritional fact sheet for little Junior to get approved before he can eat the fried chicken planned for Sundays dinner, lol.

NY City is much of the same, the days for live and let live is long gone, the busy bodies of today are mindless of what is really going on, for instance I have a friend who pays for a garage, because she is a bit old and do not park her car in the garage, some busy body complained to the board and they asked her to clean her garage and return the keys, because it was not worth it, she refused to fight, I guess at a certain age it is just not worth it. I felt so terrible for her, and I was amazed at what was going on in the restricted area I am living in. If she had never told me I would not know, even with restrictions there is additional harassment... unbelievable!

We have garages and an extremely large parking lots for those of us who do not have a garage, and prefer not to park in the street. I recently bought a motorcycle and was about to go for a ride, I removed my bike from the dark garage, and parked my motorcycle in a space in the parking lot, so that I can see the true color in the sun, went inside to change, came back to find security barring me from removing my motorcycle, only to find out that someone complained that I was occupying a space where a car can be parked, do you believe these people, get a life, do something productive with your free time, now mind you they had to actually park their car, write down all the particulars pertaining to my bike license number and so forth, go into their home I will guess "fuming" how dare a person park a motorcycle there in their feeble mind, find the number for security, call and complain. Anyway, I removed my bike because I was going out, but legally parked as I was, I was not moving. I pay maintenance, security and all the added expenses that is requested of me just like everybody else. Luckily for this busy body I do have a garage for my motorcycle.

Yep- what a whacko story, scuba! It just ain't the free country it used to be! I never understood folks who wanted the added burden of thinking things that were not their business- were. I just don't get it at all!

It is so much easier on the brain to live life by your daily experiences and smile basically for everything it lightens up the mind and keeps you in a good mood, for instance I was feeling a bit down a couple days ago got up in a not so good mood, laid in my bed and basically went on a diving trip in my mind I could see myself with my gear on , jumping into the water, looking down at the corals, then going down below to 130 feet, that was great! put me in a nice mood, then I ventured outside to face the world.

keep in mind, one has to make a conscious decision to buy/move into/rent/[whatever] that 'environment'

we've moved a number of times and in the course of house hunting have encountered 'communities' with some really goofy 'regulations' -

if you opt to move into a 'historic district' you should be prepared for the historic commission to decline your suggestion of paining your house lime green....

stuff like 'you can put up a fence, but not a chain link fence' - heh, that works for me, I like wood fences....

"no outside clothes lines" - does not work for me

etc

some places got ruled off our list real fast [g]

Dilbert you make a good point there!

In my case I purchased a home and was never told of a HOA right up until closing! It is on no paperwork whatsoever of mine, so it does not apply to me! I would not have bought if it had. I can not stand garbage like that! If I am buying a home and I want a fence, or a garden or heck even a few chickens and a pet goat I will have all that, I live in the County and County does not have restrictions, in our area it is city, but many areas still have County lots, I bought a home on purpose on a County lot for that reason (less restrictions)! It is a neighborhood and I will refrain from chickens and a goat out of consideration for my neighbors, but not because some Hidden HOA dictates that I can not!

So true I pay a large sum for maintenance, each facility has its own laundromat but we have special hours that does not accommodate a working family, therefore you either take a day off, or go there in the weekend, outrageous! *** I gave my washer/dryer away to make more room in my kitchen, also the constant noise was invading my quiet space, also my hubby is into electronics, and music/washer/dryer certainly is not a good mixture.

I will like to know who made up these extra special rules, what committee is involved? Amazing but all these rules that we are living by only hurts us, I would hope that was not their initial intention. It looks like no common sense was used, only book sense, now mind you I prefer someone with a little of both to make our rules.

>>who made up these extra special rules

a builder / developer buys a corn field and puts up housing with the intent to establish some flavor of "aura" about it.

think: gated community

once "management" is out of the picture - not going to happen in a condo / rental situation - the homeowner / condo association "committee" operates - and with representation from "management" and "residents"

if one does not vote, one does not has little right to beef about "the rules"

>>rules hurt us

you might feel differently if you'd paid a pile of money for a house in a nice neighborhood and then got a new neighbor who in the midst of an economic depression decided to open an auto junk yard next store - or use the back yard to store his utility trailer, 40' broke down motor home, his last four pickups that died and the three mobile homes he picked up cheap. yeah, that happens.

as for the parking lot, some things un-mentioned: does the parking lot include marked stalls for motorcycles? if so, why was it not parked there?
if you owned a motorcycle, rode home and found a car parked across three motorcycle spots - with none left - 'zactly how would you react?

I'm not advocating any specific rules of any kind or sort - but if one "bought into it" - "it" being an existing and known situation - one dang well needs to accept living by it - there are other people who plunked down their money with the understanding "there are rules" - perhaps they don't own motorcycles . . .
