Unusual food

Opke - soup made from goat heads and intestines. The goopy soup is seriously popular in Xinjiang, probably more than the Rolling Stones 1973 album Goats Head Soup. Opke doesn't look appetizing, especially when the goat's eye sockets are staring stright up at you. It doesnt taste too bad, kinda like a thick salty broth. But chomping on the intestines that come with it just aint right. I'm used to eating tripe in other Asian dishes, but when even my host family couldn't identify bits in my bowl, I just chucked it!

yeesh! just eat the meat people, leave the organs alone.... jeez!

I can't stand the thought of eating any kind of organ meat... not even liver. My husband on the other hand loves menudo (sp?), a Mexican dish made with beef tripe. A friend of his went to Mexico last week and brought him some back.

I love menudo, but we use pork and liver not tripe plus potatos and red bell pepper, etc.

OK - Yuck on pretty much every food listed here...including shellfish.
I think that maybe if I was eating some sort of cajun food and I had no idea what it was I'd probably be able to get thru it.... only because cajun is so dang spicy you don't taste anything anyways.

I'm not really into "odd foods" If it aint beef, pork or chicken... I dont want any. LOL And if it had more than 4 legs... EWW!

NOW-- If you were gonna PAY me to eat it, I might have second thoughts.

i wouldnt eat that goop again even if somebody paid me. adventurous pallete? sure I have one but I aint gonna repeat a mistake twice. a glutton for punishment im not.

Well YUCK! After reading the description for it I wouldnt try it once. I'm a huge fan of fish and couldnt eat it if there were eyeballs staring at me. Goat eye socket......... oh yuck now I'm feeling ill again. I gotta stay outta this thread. *laughs*

Anyone tried chicken feet? Most commonly found in a Chinese Yum CHan restaurant. Its yummu, and dont gross out by it.

Kangaroo meat is unusual too. It taste good but to see me eat one just sickens me

I didn't even know they ate Kangaroo. Something about eating something so cute bothers me. I raised pigs...and have no problem eating pork. I know how UNcute they are. Was raised around cattle... no problem eating beef. But kangaroo?? Something about that is just wrong. Same as cats & dogs. I guess maybe if you live where they live and actually see them in the wild, it's not so "odd" to you.

These "weird" animals that people eat, do they raise them on farms like we do with our cows, pigs & chickens? Are their alligator farms & kangaroo farms for the sole purpose of slaughter??

not really, ive eaten crocodile meat to when we went to a crocodile park in queensland. They dont farm for food but they have a small proportion for tasting. They do breed, so its alright

Chicken feet here in India are very cheap, so poor people ususally who can't afford chicken go for them.

I've had duck feet but... not chicken. It didn't taste bad but
there are too many bones.

My brother & his fiance bought 2 ducklings to raise for eating. Those ducks made such a mess in their house that they finally said forget it & took them to her sister's house to live outside. They are waiting till they get big enough to eat, I think they are planning on having duck for Christmas.

wow i never knew poor people ate chicken feet haha

Chicken feet is the cheapest part of the chicken (at least here) so yes poor people eat it hehe. And the street name for this here is "adidas" as in the shoes:p , it's barbecued here.

But you can buy ducks in the market. Why raise them for eating?

By the way guys this thread is going off track. Please be on the track.......:)

Because, if you raise them yourself you know exactly what you are getting.
And because raising your own food is a good thing.

In one episode of survivor, the contestants were made to eat fertilized duck egg. So they had to eat the unhatched baby chick inside. I think the egg was boiled. But the difference is, THERE IS A BABY CHICK INSIDE AND YOU HAVE TO EAT IT! ewww!

Well ive had bird nests soup. Its weird but its supposed to be good for your health
