Your FAV new cookbook so far this year?

Well, planning ahead for St. patty's Day, I found this monstrous volume loaded w/ gorgeous photography for just 4 dollars used!

Also, I have 2 dear friends who've asked me to lend our village library any cookbooks I have written by African-American authors for their coming "Black History Month" book celebration. I had several (below in red) and ordered five more (below in green)- all for 1-3 dollars each- used!

Well friends- the cookbooks above have strated rolling in!

Most folks know I like a big 'ol lap-crushing, back-breaking cookbook just chock-full of photos.

Among those that qualify to me are Christopher Idone's "Glorious American Food", Charlie Trotter's books, Thomas Keller's "The French Laundry"- those from the "Beautiful..." series... well- you get the idea- they're RARE.

Well, w/ St. Patty's Day coming up I ordered "The Country Cooking of Ireland" by Colman Anderews and let me tell you... I AM IMPRESSED.

The volume was published in 2009, and of course Andrews co-founded "Saveur" magazine.

This is one big 'ol mac-daddy book and the pictures are many, large and stunning! I ain't gonna be done feastin' on this one for a long while!

Also- Cathy... YOU especially would absolutely LOVE the Morgan Freeman Caribbean cookbook. Man- it's a handsome volume with stunning color pics and lotsa yummy-looking stuff, fer shure! :)

Well, I was SO impressed w/ "The Country Cooking of Ireland" that I also ordered a used copy of its sister-book, "The Country Cooking of France" by Anne Willan.

WOW. Is it possible to have TWO sister books BOTH so stunningingly beautiful? Evidently, it is! For this one appears outstanding and high quality as well.

Interestingly, thumbing through it after unwrapping- I find it covers many topics we've recently discussed here! Like cooking w/ horse meat, and the controversy over the appeal of froglegs, truffles and other coveted French delicasies.

Between this book and her sister cookbook on the foods of Ireland, I expect to get through the remainder of the BLIZZARD of 2010 just fine & dandy!

I had ordered this one before but it was out of stock. I picked it up a few days ago.
The Blue Willow Inn Bible of Southern Cooking. It is a good book but it is very country cooking. I'm not sure if I would recommend it to anyone yet. I havent had the chance to read it through.

I also got this one which I would highly recommend.

Looks like a winner, janie. And I love Country Living magazine!

There are a few chicken recipes in the country living that I have to get typed into the computer to share Kev. They are wonderful.

Everyone's familiar w/ Martha Stewart Living Magazine. But has anyone ever actually seen one of her Annual Cookbooks that supposedly has every recipe from the whole year's worth of issues?

I found a couple of the extra-large annuals available used at Amazon for under a dollar! But only one of the years mentions that each recipe is also accompanied by the same lavish photo that accompanied it in the magazine. And since I really like cookbooks w/ pics- I'm wondering is each of her annuals has the pictures too? Hmmm...

I suppose at only 1 cent and 23 cents plus S&H it's worth the risk to order and see! I'll let you all know! :)

Went to SAMS and found several nice cookbooks at a great price. My favorite one is Taste of Home Baking Classics for $12.95. It contains 655 wonderful recipes in a big hard cover book. Got a couple of smaller nice cookbooks for $5 each. Taste of Home are my favorite cookbooks.

Well, my cookbook addiction CONTINUES!

A friend from another foodie forum recommended "Pork & Sons". She knows I appreciate a large cookbook w/ lovely photos. When I checked it out at Amazon I noticed that the very first review at the bottom of the page read: "I have a thousand cookbooks and as far as photos- this one is by far the most beautiful!" So, I couldn't refuse! I'll let you all know...

Have any of you ever seen any of these small cookbooks in the "Country Garden" series? They're actually made and put out by the very same folks who create the much larger and stunningly beautiful coffee-table series "The Beautiful Cookbooks".

Well, I own a few of these, but I received "Potatoes" from friends as a St. Patrick's Day gift. It's a good one- in fact, all the ones I have a absolutely wonderful- small books loaded with incredible photography. I recommend them all- especially at a few cents apice for USED copies- that can't be beat! Check-em out... they're dazzling l'il books!

I'm currently waiting on these to be delivered, Janie:

Amazon.com: Pork and Sons (9780714847900): Stéphane Reynaud: Books

Amazon.com: Cafe Firenze Cookbook: Food and Drink Recipes from the Tuscan Sons (9780981929095): Fabio Viviani, Jacopo Falleni, Annette Ward, Antonio Busiello: Books

Amazon.com: A Tuscan Seduction: A Romantic Cookbook for Two (9780960167869): James Lambeth, Miles James: Books

Oddly, I don't really keep a wish-list, per se. I usually go for and greatly enjoy any cookbooks that are "art books" full of color pix and under 5 bucks- used! I NEVER spend good money on new cookbooks anymore.

Which ones are on your list, Janie?

I told Jon I thought you liked cookbooks with lots of color pics and stories. I really dont have anything on my wishlist right now.

I highly recommend this book- AND it's currently available USED for ONE PENNY!

(Actually- I had to type all that mess below earlier 'cause for some reason I was unable to cut/paste the link. But now I am able to... so here is the direct link- now you won't have to read all my gobblty-goook below! :) )

Some of you might remember Christopher Idone's extra-large format coffee-table book "Glorious American Food" from the 80's. Well I found used copies available for ONE PENNY at Amazon.

The hitch is- I found the one cent copies thru trial and error. You cannot just do a simple search of the book or author- otherwise you'll only find copies starting at like &18.00.

Go to Amazon and click open the BOOKS page. Type in "country gardens cookbooks". Find and select/open the book on "Apples".

When the Apples page opens- click open the author's name "Christopher Idone (directly under title). Then his page of all books he's written will open. Scroll clear to the bottom and click the last book on the very bottom- it'll say "no picture of book abailable".

When that page opens- there still is no pic and you'll only see used copies for 18.95. But ease down ever so slightly to the "formats" window. There you'll see a used copy for one penny in an alternate hardcover edition. Click on the word "hardcover" link. The page that opens will show a photo of the book and down a wee bit you'll be able to select and order the ONE CENT COPY!

Kind of a hassle- but the book is stunning. I think I paid like $40 for it 25 years ago which was way-pricey back then. It's a winner!

Being a fan of Amazon's cheap used cookbooks, I've done something recently that I am excited about. Growing up in a tiny little farm town, I loved our l'il local public library. As a youngster, I whiled away many hours there- as a form of escape.

Similarly, when I was cooking at this one particular rustic wilderness lodge in Cooper Landing, Alaska, on my rare days off- especially during the frigid winter months, I would bundle-up and trek to this l'il log cabin library where there was always a coffee-pot warming, and where there was always a soft comfy chair with my name on it to sit in and luxuriate all afternoon in the warmth near the hearth w/ a stack of books to look through.

So, I've decided that when I am at Amazon and happen to find a cookbook- or any book that looks particularly good- and that is available in good condition for under one dollar (it happens all the time!) I will send a copy of this book to each of these two libraries from my past to donate.

I have drafted letters to send to each library to inform them of what I will be doing- and I have ordered my first selected volume to be donated to each of them. It is "Glorious American Food" by Christopher Idone- both copies gotten for a measly 30 cents and 80 cents! (Which, by the way- this is one of my all-time FAV cookbooks- HUGE and LOADED w/ incredible photography and recipes!)

This is the most amazing post I've read so far! It's like I can see the little log cabin library you described. What an amazing and generous person you are. Truly...that is inspirational. I know I've mentioned that I wrote a cheeky cookbook for my husband. Since I have been so fortunate with this little endeavor, my way of giving back is donating to the American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" campaign. I also donated cookbooks to the local blood drive auction. Whatever I can do to give back is such a pleasure!

Wonderful story, PampPara! :)

And glad my experience appealed to you, too!
