Ugh.. Stuff in the garden at my hubbys Dads are not doing great with so much rain. Half the stuff planted is not coming up and having to be replanted. Half the cabbage plants died. The carrots and beets are doing good. Potatoes are not doing well at all. He put out 92 tomato plants that are doing ok so far.

Several of my herbs didnt make it. I finally got the chance to weed them all a few days ago. I have a couple of kinds of basil, thyme, sage, curly and flat leaf parsley, cilantro and tons of dill. My rosesmary seeds, chives and oregano didnt make it. My FIL bought two lovely rosemary bushes for me at the greenhouse and planted them in the garden with the others. This winter Im gonna take them up and bring them inside to try and keep them going. Wednesday when we get paid Im going to buy a couple oregano plants and some chives and put them in pots on the balcony. My friend gave me some peppermint with the roots still on that I got started in a pot. I gave it to my FIL who loves mint. I warned him to pick where he puts it carefully cause it will spread lol.

On the bright side so far this summer hasnt been to miserably hot. We had a week or so there where it was getting in the upper 90's. Since then our average has been 86-92 degrees or so.

Since one of our two landlords retired from downstairs things are more relaxed here. The other landlord has another office in a nearby town he also maintains so he isnt here much. I have the handyman's card so when ever something needs repaired we can call him directly if needed. The one fella who retired would have already said something about my little bundle of plants and herbs on the balcony.

I do believe that Cilantro is a plant that really likes a chill. I know it likes cooler weather. I have had mine out for months now and the frost didn't phase it.
I have everything planted and my green house is empty at last. I planted over a 100 tomato plants. Mortgage Lifters and Plums. I also planted over 100 pepper plants of different varieties. Lettuce is doing well as is the swiss chard and I should be getting some for the table within the next week. All my herbs are really taking off. I have bush beans, waxed and string beans all coming up. The first batch was lost to all the rain. My cucumber plants, both regular and pickling are starting to grow with the warmer weather that has moved in as are the melons.
It was a challenge getting new gardens in. We moved into this house last October. I have been digging up shrubs, flowers, my grape vines and raspberry bushes and even my horseradish from the other house gardens to the new ones. So far everything is surviving the move. Luckily my concord grape vines are only a couple years old.
I have also put in 2 of each, Red Delicious and yellow apple trees, Cherry trees, pear trees, nectarine trees and peach trees. They are all dwarf trees from what they call Postage Stamp sized Orchards. They only take up a 10'x20' area. I didn't bother digging up my old strawberry garden. The plants were old and I want to start new ones. Maybe next year. I need strawberries to go with all my rhubarb.

Well yesterday we went with the FIL to Jon's aunts and picked the ripe sour cherries she had left. I got about 8 cups which is enough to make Jon's Dad about 4 jars of that cherry recipe he loved so well last year. I spent an hour and a half last night sorting and washing/pitting cherries.
The four little tomato plants Brook sent me are growing like crazy. Im going to get bigger pots for them tomorrow.

Have you done any gardening at your new place Cathy? Or are you planning on hitting up the farmers market this year.
