Thanks Cookie.
A bath tub leaking and water not shutting off sounds like serious issues. I'm glad that you were finally able to get the water shut off. Your landloard is an idiot.
Water leaking and not being dealt with can cause serious mold issues in the future from the water going behind drywall and the wood structure of the framing. If you had threatened to call the local building department or even the department of health he would have fixed the problem right away. I would suggest that you call them any way. Several months from now the mold spore count should be rather high. If the smell of WD40 or a like product bothers you I am sure mold will be even worse.
FYI, fiber glass is plastic. I would thing that the cracking is due to the the installer of the tub didn't put any type of mud base under the tub before setting it in place. A product called Structolite is usually used under fiber glass tubs to distribute weight under the entire base of the tub. Usually the tubs just have a few plastic feet on the base and a flange around the tub. Watch when the old tub comes out. Look at the bottom of the old tub.

I had not thought of the mold. Jon and I are both allergic to it. I bet that is why our allergies stay so messed up.
The landlord said he is talking to a couple places here in town about what they can do about the tub. The plumber said it is gonna have to be yanked out and thats all there is to it. So it is a wait and see for now. I guess he just wants to see if it holds til he finds someone to tell him what he wants to hear or it busts out worse. I think he is looking for the cheaper way. If he gets someone like Bath Fitters to do it he is gonna pay more than just replacing the tub.
If they have to tear out part of our bedroom wall to put in a new tub its gonna be a nightmare.
lol They plumber was talking about the landlords weak handshake. Said he shook hands more like a girl.
