June "What's For Supper?"

HEY, "WHAT'S COOKIN IN JULY"

We have been barbequing more in July, We had chicken breast with soul-
seasoning with hickory chips (I didn't do that:rolleyes:) side dish was salad & mashed potatoes, it was tasty. I had Trix bars for desert. Cookie :)

Well I have my 19 year old cousin staying with me for the rest of the summer. She is trying to save some money before she goes back to school in the fall and Columbus is a good place for her to get a job. While she is here my cooking has changed a little. She is generally pretty open to everything I make but she is just not wild about fish. She tries but she's struggling with it. So I have started to replace the fish nights we had 2-3 nights a week with vegetarian meals. The husband wasn't so crazy about this at first. He likes his meat but an appeal to his wallet sealed the deal. :D

I've been making a lot of grilled chicken and vegetables, turkey meatballs, Salads and vegetarian dinners like lentil tacos and BBQ cauliflower. Over the weekend I also did hotdogs on whole wheat buns with caramelized apple-vidallia compote, sharp cheddar and dijon. along side some braised barlotti beans.

I picked-up some halibut Monday...

...and had been hungry for tempura so I had a few friends over and had them all bring items for fish tacos. Fidel grabbed yummy, thick flour tortillas from a panaderia in his town, Minot's pico de gallo was fabulous- and Betsy's guacamole was chunky and delish. The perfect accompaniments for the hali!

I made salisbury steak with garlic mashed taters yesterday.
Today is pizza burgers with parm/garlic steak fries.

I made BLTs for lunch today on kaiser rolls. We just started getting ripe tomatoes from the garden and I had some thick cut applewood smoked bacon.

I noticed my neighbors are getting ripe 'maters on several plants on their patio and they're out of town right now- for I don't know how long. I am SO tempted to snatch a couple of the red, juicy fruits! Do I dare? (AGGGHHH!!!) What a terrible moral dilemma! It would make on helluva "Law & Order" episode, wouldn't it? Ha!

Well you could tell them they were so ripe they looked like they were going to go bad. Then you could bring them some cookies.

Oh Woman, I doubt I eat a hot dog a year and now am maybe three years behind!! That sounds freakin' amazing. Thanks!

Maybe make it with some reindeer sausage on a crusty roll??

Thanks again,
Nan

I hadn't eaten hot dogs in a decade but then I found Boar's Head hot dogs and my whole opinion of them changed. A really good quality hot dog is a must. I'm sure reindeer sausage would be amazing!

Tonight I'm making Moroccan vegetable tagine with orange sented quinoa and yogurt.

Yep, Nan... I miss me some good spicy reindeer links! I used to order them from Indian Valley Meats.

I've never had the Boars Head brand hotdogs jfain refers to, but I like Hebrew National and also Black Forest brand knockwurst.

Also, I've mentioned this before but Palmer Prison inmates maintain a farm and slaughterhouse and believe it or not the Palmer Pride hotdogs they put out are amazing! If you can ever get your hands on a case- they're worth it!

Yesterday I made pizza meatballs with Mama's marinara sauce recipe. I made pizza hut breadsticks, salad, pasta salad and brownies. We went to my FIL's and had dinner with him. I left all of the leftovers with him.

(7-19 Sunday) Today I made 4 Chicken breasts that I marinaded for 2 hrs. in Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette. I cooked them on the stove (low-heat). I made white rice with stir fried (frozen) oriental veggies, put the rice on the bottom of the dish and then veggies on top with some slivered almonds to garnish and a drizzle of Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette.
I have to say it turned out Good! :)

For Monday, I have thin pieces of pork marinating over night in sweet and sour sauce ready for the grill. For a side dish I thought a salad. Have a Good week. Cookie :)

Let see ... Yesterday I made buttermilk fried chicken again with three bean salad and grilled veggies. For a late night snack we had IC's stromboli and cupcakes. Today I made herb roasted chicken with buttermilk mashed potatoes which I put in the fridge for tomorrow. Jon's Dad suprised us with the chinese for dinner.
