Your FAV new cookbook so far this year?

Okay dear ones... I have a friend at another foodie forum who has a brother that cooks for Nascar teams and drivers, and he's written a cookbook, and I think it's one that MANY here will enjoy. Please read this and please click the link to see if it's a book you might want to consider treating yourself to!

Anyway, let me tell ya- I am purty impressed... and as someone who has cooked professionally- both fussy foo-foo cuisine as well as everyday home cooking- this book appears to cover it all.

First, folks who know me know I am really reached by PHOTOS in a cookbook. And this one is loaded with'em- and they SHINE! Second- I dig real language and real dialogue spoken and written well and although I've not read the entire book yet- the few pieces I have read really fall off the tongue and bring an "A-ha" to the noggin- and most times even a smile to the lips!

I'll return here to critique a bit more after I've taken the time to read it cover-to-cover... but I wanted to offer my first impressions to try and gain some momentum and interest amongst us for a guy who's written a book that I think deserves some attention- fer shure!

So, check-out "Big John's Speedway Grill" by Rockie's brother, John Youk and grab up his recipes for everything from grilled meats and fish to pizzas, sammies, sides, desserts and creative munchies! (One of my favs that I noticed first was his grilled "San Francisco Fruit Kabobs" where John writes "there may be a lot of crazy folks in SF but you don't have to be a nutcase to enjoy this great side-dish!". This book looks to contain both creative stuff for special occasions, plus many basics that every cook needs in their repetoire. I plan to try some recipes and am even open to replacing some of my own tried and true renditions with John's- if they measure-up and surpass my own!

Cathy Will Either Love Me- or HATE Me For This! :)

Since Cathy is a great cook, who is also a talented Watercolor Artist- she'll either love me or hate me for this!..........

I got the cutest Hersheys Cookbook at SAMS today. It was only about 100 pages and cost about $8. There wasnt a bad recipe in the entire book. I am going to try the all chocolate bavarian cream pie very soon. The chocolate peanut butter fudge cheesecake looked so good.
 
There are some recipes in there I def want to post as soon as I get the chance to type them up. The chocolate peanut butter bark looked crazy good.
 
I got three of the last four I ordered in the mail today.
Havent had the chance to check them out much yet.
One wasnt in the greatest shape. Had a lot of what I hope is food sticking the pages together. It was advertised to be in much better condition.
 
My favorite new cookbook is called Pure Chocolate by Fran Bigelow. It was a real find!

I found it in a discount bookstore just off I-75 driving home through Georgia. They had tons of stuff for $5-$10. I bought about 20 books, all well-known, for about $100.
 
I will check it out. I love chocolate!

I made my husband beignets yesterday out of The Bread Machine Bible cookbook. He loved them.

Can anyone recommend their favortie extra-large coffee-table cookbook that's loaded w/ beautiful photos? These are my FAV kind and I'd like to get a couple used copies ordered. Ideas, anyone?
 
I have one called 'Culinaria France'. It was originally published in Germany, then later translated to English. It's part of a "Culinaria" series, and includes Spain, Italy, Germany, etc.

It's broken into the regions of France and shows beautiful photos of the fields, the foods, the wines, and the people raising and cooking them. There really aren't recipes, just stories and photos about the foods and their pairings.

Williams Sonoma has a series similar, but not as large (not really coffee-table sized). They have many different titles/locales. It's called Foods of the World, and includes Paris, London, Rome, Barcelona, etc.
 
Favorite cookbook is: Dick Logues - 500 Low Sodium Recipes. Maybe because it is one of my newest. Ordered Bobbie Mostyns - Low Salt Favorites but was very disappointed. I've made some of Logues recipes that bombed out but at least he has some sort of recipe for just about everything.

Wow, SilverSage... this book INDEED looks stunning! And who knew it was a whole SERIES ranging from Greece to Spain, France, U.S., italy, Germany- and many MORE! I gotta check'em out! :) (Here's a link if anyone else is interested!)
