Your favorite soup????

I don't know if all recipes are like this but chicken was in the original recipe that was given to me. I think there are several variations.

New England Clam Chowdah!!!!!!!

Done right, it can't be too watery, or too thick, and the namesake ingredient needs to be visible on my spoon, in the broth, without aide of a microscope.

well as for me as i live in the middle east we usually eat soup in winter ... and as muslims we have soup everyday in Ramadan month
popular soups here in my country are :
lentiles soup
wheat soup ( freekeh)
vegetables soup
mashroum soup
chicken soup
potatoes soup
lsan el 3asfour soup

1st place are tomato soups with rice :)
2nd place: mushroom soups!

My hot weather favorite is a creamy tomato soup that is thickened with rice. Since it's blended you don't see the rice (1 1/2 Tbs) it's just in there to thicken it. Recipe available if anyone is interested.

Jp & Kev both of you have got excellent choices there! I never heard of either one just as you mentioned them. But Brie w/ Cream Of Onion even sounds good. And I adore old fashioned Tomato Soup so using rice as a thickener sounds good JP! Please do share the recipe! Tonight my hubby pulled out some horrible thin sliced steak and thawed it out for me to make something out of for dinner tonight. Well a real tough cut of meat like that goes straight into my pressure cooker so that I can get it tender enough to chew:) I made it with a creamy tomato sauce with some egg noodles to serve it over and it came out delicious! Also had Texas Toast and broccoli as a veggie. Turned out so good! I love tomato based sauces over any meat and even sometimes a good piece of fish!

Here you go Cathy. I just copied and pasted it from the Low Sodium Forum. You can sub normal ingredients in place of the low sodium stuff I have to use. Just use 1 cup beef broth in place of the bouillon and water. BTW I now add 2 roma tomatoes, chopped, to the diced tomatoes to lower the heat just a little bit. Also feel free to add 1/2 tsp salt to it.

Cream of Tomato Soup

Most all cream soups are a no-no for a low sodium diet. This one was copied and changed several times mostly to get rid of the dry milk powder that was creating most of the sodium count. First you have to make a "No-Salt seasoning. 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder plus 1 1/4 tsps of the following. Onion powder, thyme, paprika, celery seed, white pepper, dry mustard, dried lemon peel and 1 tsp black pepper. Mix and store in a dry container.

Cream of Tomato Soup -
1 tsp sodium free beef bouillon
1 can No Salt Added (NSA) diced tomatoes
1 1/2 Tbs of uncooked long grain rice (to thicken)
1 tsp No-Salt seasoning (recipe above)
1/4 tsp white pepper
1 cup water

Bing to a boil in a 3 Qt saucepan, cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Pour into blender and puree. Store in the frig using a a microwave safe bowl to serve yourself about 3 servings. This is a little hot in case you want to lower the pepper content some.

Hey thanks JP! I love both recipes, the no-salt seasoning sounds GREAT! I just recently bough no-salt Spike seasoning...I LOVE THE STUFF!!! You def. do not miss the salt >well> as much:eek:

CanMan I am so glad you asked for the no-salt seasoning recipe!

If you're not a heart patient just put 1 tsp of salt in there to bring it back up to speed. This makes quite a few servings. I keep one mixed up and use it on a lot of things.

There are two soups that I love. One is the classic Chicken Noodle Soup and the other is a Turkish Red Lentil Soup. They are delicious and they are like comfort foods for me. Although the weather has been warmer I still can't help but make them!

Tomato - plain Jane Campbells. lol

Chili.

Stuffed Pepper Soup, Chicken Pot Pie Soup, and Roast Duck with Wild Rice Soup - all courtasy of the restaurant I grew up working for.

Chicken Dumpling - the kind with big dumplings that is BEST when you're sick.

Also enjoy - Beef Vegetable, French Onion, Minestrone, Chicken Gumbo, and Cream of anything :)

I have been on a soup kick lately myself as the weather is turning colder. I made loaded potato soup the day before yesterday.

Ingredients

* 12 slices bacon
* 2/3 cup margarine
* 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 7 cups milk
* 4 large baked potatoes, peeled and cubed
* 4 green onions, chopped
* 1 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
* 1 cup sour cream
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Directions

1. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium heat until browned. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
2. In a stock pot or Dutch oven, melt the margarine over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Gradually stir in milk, whisking constantly until thickened. Stir in potatoes and onions. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
3. Reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes. Mix in bacon, cheese, sour cream, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted.

I also know how to make tomato soup. I also do have that ingredients but, my favorite
soup is the commonly cream of mushroom soup and crab and corn. :)

Cream of potato soup is fast becoming my favorite. I think I have made it more in the last 60 days then all the rest put together.

I like New England style clam chowder, cioppino, chili, goulas, split pea, my own concoction of vegetable beef soup, turtle soup, and Mama Leone's garlic soup.
