Your favorite soup????

Mrs W made a new soup tonight - it was not like any she ever made before - it had non fat milk, salt free chicken granules, cubed potatoes, cubed ham (no fat), onions, pepper grating, and sliced fresh mushrooms. It tasted like cream of chicken soup and was very good.

Sometimes I think the best soups are made from whatever is on hand. With the only recipe being the stock that you start with.

I know what you mean - when I make my beef vegetable soup I start with beef neck bones and then add everything but the kitchen sink. I got this from a lady in Germany and the kids (and dog) loved it. The secret ingredient is liebstalk which we grow in our herb garden - a little goes a long way.

crabmeat and corn..my mom used to cook this soup everytime i visit her... and now im learning to do it 'coz my son love it also

I come from eastern europe, where soups are daily must :)

the recipe I will share with you now is for soup called "Solyanka" (russian). its a quick to prepare soup and requires not that many ingredients :)

Ingredients you will need:

1 Smoked sausage of any kind about 0.5 pounds
1 cooked sausage like bologna 0.5 pounds or you can use like pork and beef hot dogs
1 salami sausage one stick also about 0.5 pounds.
3 pickles from can
Olives that medium size dish they have in grocery stores :) 0.5 pound maybe
2 lemons
Fresh Dill
sour cream

preparation:
1.In a medium size pot pour 3 quarts of water.
2. cut up all sausages into small-medium size pieces, so they fit in your mouth as you eat them later :)
3. dump all sausages in water and bring to boil. the reduce heat a little and cook for about 20 minutes
4. in the mean time cut up, lemons and pickles - also in medium size pieces
5. after 20 minutes put pickles, lemons and olives into soup and cook for another 10 minutes. also pour some of the "pickle juice" into soup, like a cup or so. it will add some taste to it. its essential you do it trust me :)
6. cook for another 10-15 minutes

serve with sour cream, sprinkle some dill in each bowl and squeeze some lemon juice. eat with dark bread.

Potato or split pea. Both are fine with me. Course I also love stew and Texas chili. I may make some today. The weather is cold, hot soup sure sounds great. CF:) Oh, don't forget the cornbread, or some fresh baked wheat bread.

I'm thinking chili for tonight, as well.

It snowed last night and now it's 45
degrees and raining.

I got some fresh cornmeal and corn
bread sound like the deal, too. May
do muffins this time.

I'm doing Chili for today myself JW. I love chili on cold or dreary days topped with a little sour cream and maybe some green onions chopped up. It makes for a quick reheat meal in the evening when I only have a little time when I'm on the later shift.

Chili is always better after a day or two, but then
you knew that. Her chili of the other day messed me
up and am taking a break from it for awhile. I'm
jonesing for clam chowder or a ciopinno.

Annie's, now that is what I call soup

just mouthwatering. Thanks for sharing the photo. The old adage... "a picture is worth a thousand words" has its place here. Beautiful

My second favorite is Chesapeake Bay Cream of Crab Soup. Oh yum. Like it so thick with lump crabmeat that you could walk across it.

I love fish, and eat lots of it. I just can't go fish soup. Other seafood in soup, chowder or gumbo is great. Now thats just me talking. CF:)
